Case study
A local workspace for print costs, jobs, and materials
We built 3DCDesign to keep print estimates, printer profiles, jobs, and materials in one place on a maker's own device, then grew that starting point into a print-shop workspace for iOS and Android.
.NET 10 .NET MAUI SQLite iOS & Android
The problem
Working out what a print costs, from material to print time, and preparing quotes consistently was the starting problem. The estimate needed to begin with the printer and material already in use, rather than a blank calculator each time.
The same workshop also needed printer profiles, print-job records, filament and resin inventory, and customer or quote details. Those records belong to the maker and need to stay useful in a garage or shop without reliable signal.
Our approach
A single .NET MAUI project serves iPhone, iPad, and Android. SQLite keeps printers, jobs, materials, and customers on the device, while the printer catalog, material guidance, and practical references ship inside the app. No account or server is required for those records.
Cost and print-time estimates start from saved printer and material defaults. An estimate can become a customer-safe or internal PDF and remain in a local document history. Job records connect their printer, material, costs, and quote details; monthly reports and Print Analytics bring workload, material usage, tracked cost, and estimated margin into the same workspace.
The result
3DCDesign is live on the App Store and Google Play, free to download, with free core tracking tools. Portable backup files carry local records between installations. The app needs no login, sends no records or media to a 3DCDesign server, and includes no advertising or cross-app tracking.
The product keeps workshop records, estimates, and documents together without turning them into a cloud service. Automated tests cover backups, database migrations, and the cost calculator, while the shared .NET MAUI foundation supports the mobile implementation.
